Internal Services

Data that is created on the web portal. Anyone with access to the GIS Portal can create internal services.

  • Data can be edited. User can add, subtract, and edit layers attached to service (if user permissions allow editing)

  • Layer color properties can be edited

  • Data can be exported to a table and excel document

  • Data can be saved and deleted

  • 'Select All Records' and 'View All Records' features available

  • Files can be attached to data and viewed

  • Cannot have sub layers. Example: Layer 1->Layer 1 sub-layer

External Services

Data that is imported from an ArcGIS user. The data acts as read-only for all users

  • Cannot edit data in any way

  • Individual points can be exported to a table

  • Data cannot be saved or deleted

  • 'Select All Records' and 'View All Records' features not available

  • Attaching/Viewing Files not available

  • Can have sub-layers. Example: Layer 1->Layer 1 sub-layer

Who has access to create External Services?

Anyone with an ArcGIS seat. For external service requests, see Matt Rahn, William Rice, Paige Marshall, or Tobie Schroeder.
